Main structure of the filter press machine :
01. Frame
The frame is the foundation of the filter press. It has thrust plates and a compression head at each end, connected by beams on either side. The beams support the filter plates and/or filter frame, along with the compression plate.
1. Thrust plate: This connects to the support, anchoring one end of the filter press to the foundation. In a chamber filter press, the thrust plate has a feed port in the center and four additional holes at the corners. The top two holes are for the inlet of the wash liquid or compressed gas, while the bottom two serve as the outlet (or filtrate outlet in an underflow configuration).
2. Compression plate: This holds the filter plates and frame in place. Rollers on either side support the compression plate as it rolls along the beam's tracks.
3. Beam: This is the load-bearing component. Depending on the corrosion protection requirements of the operating environment, it can be coated with rigid polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, stainless steel, or a new type of anti-corrosion coating.
02.Compress mechanism: Manual, Mechanical, or Hydraulic.
This type of filter machine is hydraulic compress type : The hydraulic clamping mechanism consists of a hydraulic station, a cylinder, a piston, a piston rod, and a Havlan card connecting the piston rod to the clamping plate.
03. Filtering Mechanism:
The filtering mechanism consists of filter plates and filter cloth, with both sides of the filter plates covered with filter cloth. Material enters each filter chamber through the feed holes on the thrust plate. Solid particles, whose particle size is larger than the pore size of the filter medium (filter cloth), are retained in the filter chamber, while the filtrate flows out through the outlet holes below the filter plates.
How to operate a filter press,
The liquid solid mixture is pumped into the filter press, which is made up of a number of recessed filter plates forming chambers. The plates are supported in a fabricated steel frame and is held closed by a force exerted from a hydraulic ram mounted in the frame work at the end of the machine.
Each filter plate is covered by a filter cloth that retains the solid particles, but allowing the liquid to pass through and exit through the ports in the filter plate.
The particles retained gradually build up on the surface of the filter media and after a period of time eventually form a solid cake.
As the cake forms the pressure within the filter press the pressure rises as the filtrate has to pass through the already partially formed cake to exit the chamber. It becomes increasingly more difficult to continue pumping as the press is unable to accept more solids. At this point the feed pump is stroking infrequently and the filtrate flow from the filter press has considerably reduced or completely stopped.
At this point or at a predetermined filtration time or pressure being achieved the cycle is terminated and the fully formed filter cake is discharged.
