Toper ---What is a filter press?

A filter press is a pressurized filtration device. It uses a special filter medium (filter cloth, filter paper, filter membrane, etc.) to apply a certain pressure to the object, so that the liquid can be dialyzed out. It is a commonly used solid-liquid separation device.

Toper--- How does the filter press work?

The slurry is pumped into the filter press. The solids are evenly distributed during the feeding (filling) cycle.
Solids began to accumulate on the filter cloth. Most of the solid/liquid separation is done through the filter cake on the cloth. At first, some fine powder may pass through the filter cloth (1), but eventually, the solids begin to form a layer on the filter cloth (2) like a pre-coating. This layer traps fine particles and forms a filter cake (3).Solids accumulate on the filter cloth .

Toper--- How long does the filling cycle take?

The filling period depends on many parameters. The most important parameter is the nature of the material to be dewatered. The mortar easily releases water and dehydrates quickly. On the other hand, the aluminum hydroxide waste slurry in the manufacture of beverage cans is not easy to release its water and is slowly dehydrated.

The next most important parameter is the weight concentration of solids in the slurry. The filling period of a slurry with a solids content of 5% is approximately twice that of a slurry with a solids content of 10% (all other parameters are equal). This is because the press must process half of the water to be filled with solids.

Other parameters include the thickness of the filter cake, the maximum feed pressure to feed the slurry into the press, and the choice of filter cloth.
